Mother's Day Homerun

Mother's day is always a little bitter sweet for me, bitter because I lost my own mom when I was nine to cancer (yes, cancer does suck) but thankfully I had a wonderful step mom take over mom duties from there on out ( I often feel bad because she got the teenage years and that is a tough time to become an instant mom) but like baseball life can through you some nasty curve balls and in 1998 I lost my step mom in a car accident. If anyone is keeping track I am currently O for 2 in the mom department. But with all the set backs in life, life can through you some sweet meaty fastballs like the blessings of my three wonderful daughters who have given me the ability to see past the hurt and pain of growing up without my own moms and celebrate the beauty of being a mother myself.

I may not have all the answers all of the time and I wish I could call up one of my moms and ask for advice at times but the girls see me for who I am. I am a mom who is there to cuddle them when they fall, attend all, OK most of there activities, and a mom who no matter what happens in their lives will always love them unconditionally and accept them for who they are just like my own moms did with me in their short but extraordinary lives.

So this blog is dedicated to all the moms who are living extraordinary lives with their children and too my own moms who left the game way to early!

French Quarter Girl.....

Ok, the word is out "I hate to camp" well outdoors at least. I attribute my dislike to camping to the bugs, bears and the lack of being able to get a nice long (at least 20 minutes) hot shower in the morning.

Bugs are gross and bears will eat you. I don't particularly like gross things the whole worm on a hook for fishing is gross, the act of taking a fish off of a hook is gross and slimy. And bears are pretty and all but from a long distance. When I moved to Colorado from Nebraska three years ago I researched "what to do if you encounter a
bear while running". I did the research but I am pretty sure I would still get eaten because I tend to panic in those situations. I kept my running to neighborhoods and avoided any trail running. And said a little prayer every morning before I went out. I am freak and I know it and I am OK with it. So thanks to my friend Trisha who by the way "is so pretty" has dubbed me the "The French Quarter Girl." I wear the title with honor because how many people in Colorado would actually admit to hating camping? It's like living in Colorado and not like to ski or hike. I like to ski but hiking still freaks me out a little you know because of the bears.

My photographer rules broken

I don't normally photograph people unless I have their permission (my own rules) but this fellow for some reason caught my attention and I was able to capture him a couple of different ways. I don't know anything about him except that he was down on "his" bench the entire time we were in San Antonio. I didn't photograph him until the last night we where there although I had been watching him the previous nights. He made conversation with everyone that came by and seemed to enjoy his bible and his own people watching. I don't know if he had a place to go but he wasn't the typical panhandler one might see I only know this because he asked no one for a handout. He seemed to just enjoy talking with the folks.

The Caverns

Here are a couple of images I took while in still in glorious Texas. These caverns where amazing. I even received a "this is cool" from my teenager. Who, normally if there is not a cute boy involved pretty much remains uninterested.
